Corporate Needs
Corporation.com has approximately 550 employees and is continuing to grow rapidly. They need:
  a robust instant messaging platform that can handle heavy inter/intra-office communication;
  a secure instant messaging platform that will protect sensitive interoffice communications;
  the ability for each employee to access their instant messaging server from their desktops when at the office, from their laptops when on the road and, sometimes, from their home PC's;
  the ability for traveling salespeople to access their instant messenger from their PDAs or laptops, anywhere and at any time; and
  the ability to scale the instant messaging platform, opening it up to customers and suppliers.

One office is in Washington D.C. and the other is in California. Each location consists of the following:
- a fixed Internet connection with static IP addresses (DSL, T-1 or higher)
- a high speed LAN
- an Active Directory Server connected to the Internet
- a PC or server dedicated to running TIMP and connected to the Internet

The evaluation version of TIMP instant messaging server is downloaded, installed and tested. The CTO decides to install TIMP on a server in California; the Washington DC staff and employees at home or on the road are able to access it securely thanks to SSL client/server connections. The TipicIM (or other XMPP/Jabber client) is installed on all company PC's.

Administration
Corporation.com has two full time system administrators. One administrator is located in California, the other in Washington DC. The California office system administrator helps to support the after-hours users in Washington DC when their administrator has left for the day or is sick. The remote administration features of TIMP ensure that the physical location of the machine that needs to be managed is a non-issue. TIMP can be managed using TIMP Management Console or (remotely and securely) with a XMPP/Jabber client through CLI (Command Line Interface).

Benefits
  TIMP supports the SSL Client/Server connection for encrypted communication. By using TIMP all communications between the east coast office and the west are completely secure and cannot be hacked or monitored;
  the employees are authenticated on the TIMP server using their Active Directory profiles -- they do not need to remember a new username and password. Administrators can simply manage their users with the Active Directory Server;
  thanks to TIMP the salespeople can communicate securely via instant messaging while traveling, employees who telecommute several days a week can communicate easily from home, and consultants who do not physically work in the office can communicate from wherever they are; and
 several work groups can have their own internal chatrooms set up for projects. The chatrooms are used to discuss project issues and ensure that everyone involved in the project knows exactly what is going on all the time.
