New York City and Milan, October 24, 2002 - Tipic Inc.

Tipic Inc., a provider of Open Protocol Instant Messaging Platforms, today announced the availability of TipicME, its client software for Instant Messaging and Localization Services on mobile handsets.

Based on Java(TM) 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) and compliant with the Open Jabber(TM) Protocol (XMPP), which Tipic fully supports, TipicME connects to any Jabber(TM)-based server platform such as TIMP - Tipic Instant Messaging Platform for Windows(TM) Servers.

"Using TipicME with TIMP, companies can cheaply and efficiently create their own wireless/wired Instant Messaging Network, house the Server behind their firewall and let employees interact with corporate applications through Instant Messaging," said Marco Palombi, President of Tipic Inc. "Business travellers, sales persons and other employees can communicate using TipicME on a broad range of wireless and desktop appliances over the world's 2G, 2.5G, and 3G networks, including GSM, CDMA, TDMA, GPRS, and UMTS as well as using Jabberâ„¢ compliant wired desktop clients."

Companies can brand TipicME and distribute it with their logo. Handset manufacturers can optimise TipicME according to the devices' memory, general peripherals, and user interface and language. Mobile device manufacturers and wireless operators can dramatically reduce development time by embedding and shipping TipicME with their handset offerings, or provision it over the air.

TipicME connects to Jabber(TM)servers through a wireless connection enhancer proxy to reduce the use of wireless bandwidth and minimize memory occupation on the phone (60Kb or less depending on features). TipicME can connect to localisation tools on the mobile handset and remotely on servers, allowing for the creation of localisation services.
