Step 1: Configuration

In order to use TIMP.NET, you must define the following settings. The most important are certainly the DNS name of the instant messaging Server and authentication mechanism. These settings define respectively the addressing scheme of the accounts that will be created by the users and how the users will log-in to the server.

Other settings to define are whether to enable the S2S and the VOIP Rendez Vous Server. All these settings will be discussed in the following paragraphs.

Multiple Domains: TIMP.NET allows for multiple domains to be used. You might want to have, for example, two domains: a domain (im.company.com) and a second domain (company.com). TIMP.NET Wizard allows you to specify only one domain, so you must choose only one now. When TIMP.NET Wizard is over, you will be able to specify the additional domains using the TIMP.NET Console.

IM Server DNS Name

The name you choose here will set the naming standard of the IM Addresses on your XMPP Server; for example, if you choose Localhost, users will be identified by the following IM Address: xxx@localhost.

Either add a new name such as im.mycompany.com (it must point to the machine where TIMP is installed), an IP address, or choose from the list; the following choices, or at least some of them, should be available in the TIMP.NET Wizard:

Choose Localhost if you want to try out TIMP on your machine only, or if you are connected with a dial-up connection and you don't have a domain; this will allow you to evaluate the Server and also use it as Developer Platform

User authentication

S2S interoperability

Enable this option if you want your XMPP Server to communicate with other XMPP Servers. If you are planning to use TIMP as an Intranet solution you do not need to enable it.

VOIP Rendez Vous Server

TIMP.NET together with TipicIM support VOIP (Voice Over IP). The support is to be considered experimental at this stage, so enable it and try the VOIP capabilities of TipicIM.
