Adding a new domain

Prerequisite: DNS registration of the Domain that must be added

A new Domain can be added to TIMP.NET, to allow users to have an IM Address of the type: user@secondserver.com

In the following document we assume that users already have an IM Address of this type: user@myserver.com

The first step is to define a record CNAME in the DNS; the CNAME should connect the Domain secondserver.com to myserver.com; once the update of the DNS has been verified, you can use the TIMP.NET Console to add the new Domain.

Log-in to the TIMP.NET Console; on the left, under the Domain listing:

You now need to associate to "secondserver.com" the component that manages the IM sessions:

Now the left column of the TIMP.NET Console should show the typical options of a domain capable of managing IM sessions messaging.

By default, the new domain accepts user registration without any authentication mechanism.

When you commit any change, you should always remember to Click on Apply to have the changes applied to the running instance of TIMP.NET; also click on Save to Disk to have the changes committed to the configuration file (so that, if you restart your machine, the changes in your configuration will not be lost
